Subject: More Richmond's from Tahiti
Subject: More Richmond's from Tahiti
The work of Joshua Bailey Richmond I would imagine was a huge labor of love for him. For anyone interested in the history of the Richmond Family in the US and aboard, this text is the "go to". Interestingly enough, there are two Richmond men that ventured to the isle of Tahiti and lived their life in paradise. Joseph D. Richmond (b.1818) was the first to sail to Tahiti. Then some years later in 1875, a distant cousin of Joseph's, George R. Richmond (b. 1848) found himself there as well. I am descended from George, who is in the 9th generation of Joshua's book. I was so inspired by Joshua's work that I continued where Joshua left off with George's family and have researched its members through to 14 generations. The most challenging part of my research has been the work that I have done in Tahiti, especially since I don't speak French very well. You see, my grandfather (Charles Richmond), being the son of George Richmond was 1/2 American and 1/2 Tahitian and as an adult he left Tahiti and moved to California being the only child out of the 14 children in his family to leave Tahiti. I am a native Californian, but Tahiti is the home in my heart.
